Multi-Factor Authentication Android Setup
Android setup with Microsoft Authenticator and SMS Text Messages
This tutorial will guide you through the preferred Multi-Factor Authentication setup using the Microsoft Authenticator app and SMS text messaging.
Follow the steps below to setup Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for your Android device (mobile device).
- Open a web browser and go to https://aka.ms/mfasetup
- Enter your UADA email address and click “Next”
- Enter your password and click “Sign In”
- Troubleshooting step: If you get an error when you sign in, try a Google Chrome Incognito Window and then start from step 1.
- Click “Next” to begin MFA registration
- Install the Google Play Store - Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device. Click “Next”
- Open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device and touch “+” to add an
account.
- Touch “Work or school account” on your mobile device
- Touch “Allow” on your mobile device to allow the app to scan the QR code on your computer
screen.
- On the computer click “Next”
- Hold your mobile device's back camera over the QR code on the computer monitor. Once
the scan is complete, click “Next”.
- The Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device should now look similar to the
image below.
- The computer screen should now also confirm the setup was successful. A push notification
will automatically be sent to your mobile device.
- Touch “Approve” on your mobile device to finalize the Microsoft Authenticator app
setup.
- A confirmation will be displayed on your computer. Click “Next”
Next you will register for SMS text messages as a second authentication method
- Enter your mobile phone number and click “Next”
- You will receive a text message with a 6 digit code
- Enter the 6 digit code on the computer and click “Next"
- You have now successfully registered SMS text messages as your second authentication
method. Click “Next”
- Verify the two authentication methods registered are shown on the final screen and
click “Done”
Multi-Factor Authentication Wrap-Up
In this tutorial we setup the Microsoft Authenticator app as the primary authentication method. The next time you Sign In to a cloud application (box.uada.edu, outlook.office.com, etc.) you will see the screen below prompting you to approve the authentication method.
You may optionally check the box “Don’t ask again for 7 days” to remember this computer and browser for 7 days before you will be asked to reauthorize.
Important: If this is a shared computer, do NOT check the box to remember your login.
